Vessels that were built in the Coastal Communities of Essex for a variety of passenger carrying commercial activities. Each type of vessel containing unique design traits making them indicative of not only their requirements to work in a geographically location but of there wider standing with in a social context of a time period.

Ferry

Vessels built with the purpose to carry passengers regularly across the varying stretches of waters in Essex

  • A small village at the head of the River Colne that once had a vibrate maritime industry

  • Built by the Rowhedge Ironworks in 1925 for The London & North East Railway Co. two years after it was formed from an amalgamation of a number of railway companies.

  • A town that was known for yacht building however a number of commercial vessels were commissioned there.

  • Built in 1947 by Wallasea Yacht Station Ltd. Built with a very shallow draught to be able to operate in the Essex waters for Victory Pleasure Boats Ltd. She operated from Clacton and Maldon.
